About Our History

How it started

They say that nothing worth doing is easy. Like every successful church, we’ve had our bumps in the ministry. But we wouldn’t change a thing. Why? Because throughout our journey God has been our shield and banner.

Bible Way Evangelistic Tabernacle of Jesus (B.W.E.T.J.) was first established at Abosey Okai – Accra in a public school in 1973 and later moved to a residential house given by a benevolent Nigerian called Alagba. The Church moved again to a rented house in Sakaman – South Odorkor, Accra in 1986. The church services were held at a verandah with about ten adult members, four of whom were from his family the late Bishop Sammy Kweku (founder of B.W.E.T.J).

By his commitment and dedication, the church grew and fortunately God lead him to an abandoned dilapidated factory and renovated the building to accommodate a medium size auditorium, nicely furnished and carpeted – it was arguably the first church in Ghana to be carpeted.

As a result for his passion for God’s work and desire for the word of God to reach as many souls as possible, he gathered pastors around him assisting them spiritually, materially and financially. He was able to solicit funds from missions abroad to help fellow ministers of God. A lot of Pastors have passed through his hands, notably among them are: Rev. Sarfo of Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor Samuel Harold Osafo Wiafe, Pastor Aidoo, Rev. Nii Akrong, Pastor Danquah, Late Rev. Conduah, Evangelist Osei Kwame of Apostolic Faith, Pastor Acquah – Graham, Pastor Akoto, Pastor Nyaney, Pastor Norquay, Evangelist/Singer Mary Ghansah and late Elders Timothy Oku, the late Daniel Yaw Sarpong, Elder Christian Mensah and Moses Donkor. Church branches were established at Breman - Asafo in Kumasi, Edwafo in Eastern region, Dominase in Central region, Japekrom in Brong Ahafo region, Agogo in Ashanti region, with headquarters at Sakaman in Accra.

He was instrumental in inviting Missionaries from Brazil, Germany, Korea and USA, and organized crusades in Takoradi, Kumasi, Accra, Abidjan and Lome. Bishop, as affectionately called, had a soft hand, readily sharing what he has with and as such was hardily found in need. He was a benevolent. In almost all the trips to Brazil, USA, Germany and other European countries, the cost were fully sponsored and funded freely including boarding and lodging by missions abroad.

He was very much concerned about deprived children and so helped to solicit funds from abroad to establish Kindergarten and Primary schools in Bonsuoku, close to Senya Bereku, Dominase in Central region and Pakyi No.1 in Ashanti region and provided free clothing and food to the children. Vegetable farms and fish ponds were all made to help provide food for the schools and the church workers.
Bishop had a calling for evangelistic ministry and made an impact to all the people he met, particularly teaching on ‘Oneness in God’ and doing everything in the NAME OF JESUS was uncompromised.

Bishop Sammy Kweku before passing on to glory prayed for his son Cecil Kwesi Acquah and blessed him with an anointing to carry on with the Lords work after he is gone to be with his maker. Pastor Cecil Kwesi Acquah took the mantle to work full time in ministry after his father passed on to glory. He is now the Senior and leader of Bible Way Evangelistic Tabernacle of Jesus (B.W.E.T.J) with Reverend David Kwasi Twum as the assistant pastor.
